I’ve been in the flooring business for over 40 yrs, I started out installing VCT tile, and The way I was taught was hands-on, I had no teacher and did not go to school to learn what I was doing, I just used common sense and a lot of hard work, Starting out was a big Experience, because in the beginning I knew nothing about flooring, me and a good friend Partnered up and started installing carpet and Split the money 50-50, After a year I decided to go on my own, made the investment in tools needed and bought a van, my first job was installing carpet, Went to work for flooring store learning day by day and week by week, Money was just ok, made my investment back in 6 months and moved on other types of flooring, started doing sheet goods, roll vinyl 12 foot, I was on my own and it was backbreaking work but stayed with it for 3 + yrs it paid well, As time went on the next big thing was hardwood, took a big step and learned to install hardwood flooring, Big change in money, wood flooring paid by the foot an not by the yard, it was hard at first but as time went on I was very good and started doing real big jobs and went into million dollar homes, The money was huge, Installed a lot of hardwood and LEARNED Alot, This was about 10 yrs into The Flooring industry and I was about 40 yrs old, The next big thing that came out in Flooring was Laminate Flooring, Pergo came to the states and become huge, Started installing PERGO laminate flooring and that’s all I did for 5-6 yrs, I took a weekend course to get Certified Too Fix & repair laminate Flooring, it was a lot easier because there was NO glue, The NEW Flooring Floated over a pad, So installed very Fast, I was doing jobs half the time it took todo hardwood, Ok the next BIG thing came to the Flooring industry, VLP( Vinyl Luxury Plank) This came out in mid 2006 Which was a glue down material and mostly was made for commercial Application, But just a few yrs later they came out with floating Anti-locking system, At first I did not like it, It was hard to put together, But learned it and took off, i was self – taught, made alot of money, But the flooring industry was up and down, Some times the work was there and sometimes it was not! it became very competitive and every one was out to take jobs away from you, So it was very hard keeping up with the times, over the years learned new way to fix and repair all flooring, Thats what io do most of time today
